Explore Essaouira
Essaouira offers the ideal climate for short or long visits, as sunshine is guaranteed almost every day of the year. The wind from the ocean helps to maintain an ideal temperature, no matter what the season.
Inside the walls of the medina (historic city center) protect its dwellers from the strong afternoon winds. These same winds are ideal for those who love to windsurf and kitesurf. No matter what time of the year, you will almost always find a warm, but moderate climate in Essaouira

The medina is teaming with history, artists and musicians, and was once a refuge for hippies. The cannons along the walls of the fortress that look to the north to the rocky coast of the Atlantic ocean, contrast with the large bays and extensive sandy beaches on the south side of the town. Separating the rocks and the beach, and just outside the city walls, is a picturesque fishing port, where one can choose from a vast selection of fresh fish that can be taken home or prepared on the spot.

Despite being a popular vacation spot, Essaouira has maintained its identity as an authentic and completely Moroccan city, where harmony reigns between families that have lived there for centuries, its newer “ex-pat” citizens from Europe and North American , and visitors from all parts of the world. Essaouira is truly a unique destination, one that offers exotic smells, sights and experiences.

Visitors will have no problem finding plenty to do in the area! The medina (historic city center) offers an array hard to resist of colors, spices, clothes, local handmade and other traditional wares in its numerous bazaars and small shops.

If you can tear yourself away from these shopping opportunities, there is much to enjoy in Essaouria and the surrounding areas.

Hammam
Traditional Moroccan baths, a cross between a sauna and a steam bath. There are many authentic hammans in Essauira, where you can also indulge in popular and very reasonably priced massages and other beauty treatments.
There are also several quality spas in the area that offer Berber style massage and treatments.

Golf di Mogador
This well-known 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player is only 6 kilometers from Essaouira. Suggested for beginners as well as experienced players, this is an exceptional experience that takes you through dunes, forests and provides breathtaking views of the Atlantic and surrounding countryside.

Dromedaries and Equitation
This is a “must-do” experience if galloping long distances along white sand beaches, enjoying the view of the city, ocean, dunes and countryside sounds too good to pass up. Outings are available on horseback or with dromedaries. For the more adventurous, overnight camp-out expeditions are available.

Water sports
“Windy Essaouira” is the perfect destination for those who love windsurfing and kitesurfing. There are plenty of waves and water for surfers, kayakers and swimmers as well.
Many nautical centers along the beach just outside of town offer courses and equipment for purchase or rental.
Other popular “surf” destinations are located in the nearby towns of Sidi Kaouki and Moulay Bouzerktoum.

Quad Bikes
This is a popular activity that the whole family can enjoy. Several shops offer safe, fun and interesting quad tours along the sand dunes south of the town. Tours can be arranged directly with the shops, lasting for anywhere from one hour to a whole day.

Souk (markets)
Go back in time by visiting some of the local traditional markets of the surrounding villages. These rustic and authentic bazaars, with wares and people arriving by donkey, camel and carts, will give you a true idea of life in the Moroccan villages and farm.
Some of the many traditional markets worth visiting include:
Tuesdays- Hinchan
Wednesdays - Ida Ougourd
Thursdays - Meskala
Saturdays and Sundays - Had Draa

Day trips:
Sidi Kaouki - 25 kilometers south of Essaouira. The small village can be reached on foot in 5-7 hours of walking along the beach, or by an easy drive along well traveled roads.
Beautiful beaches, ideal for surfers.

Moulay Bouzerktoum - 20 kilometers north of Essaouira. Another beautiful beach, ideal for surfers.

Safi – 120 kilometers north of Essaouira. In this small town along the Atlantic, you can see artisans producing their ceramic wares, using their age-old traditional methods.

And lots more…!! Ask us about the many other towns that are worth visiting, and opportunities for hiking, biking, quad outings, horseback and camel riding near Essaouira and towards the Atlas mountains region. Tours can be arranged for one or several days.
